The development of the cart-smithery in Gabrovo region is connected with the economic upsurge during the Bulgarian Revival period (18th-19th c.c.). From the end of 18th c. people used carts for transportation, in which just buffaloes were put in harness. At the end of 19th c. and the beginning of 20th carts with iron axles and rims and pulled by horses came into use. The Cartwright masters the skills of the black-smiths, turners and carpenters, as the manufacture of a cart combines all these crafts.
