If Christmas is a holiday to the lads, St. Lazar' s day is to the lassies, because a girl who haven't been danced (to the accompaniment of St. Lazar's day songs, for health and fertility) can not marry.

      At this day, girls on age 12 - 15, dressed up with the most beautiful clothes, adorned with bridal adornment, walk around the houses in the village and sing songs with wishes foe every member from the family.
      The songs are peculiar verbal magic for health, luxuriant and fertility. These are one of the most poetic songs in the Bulgarian folklore, with expressive loving marriage character, in witch longing for happy marriage with beloved is interlace with hope for fertility during the economic year.
      So, with the magic of the words is accomplished the transition period from girl towards to the category of lassies and in the same time a transition from winter to summer.
      From this moment the girls shows to the society, that they are ready for marriage and prolonging the family.
