An Exhibition-Bazaar
of Lazar Nikolov Urumov
|
Lazar Urumov, a hereditary blacksmith, was born in Plovdiv on the 6th of July, 1956.
He finished his secondary education at the "Anton Ivanov" technical high school, where his specialty was wrought iron. He has been seriously practising this craft for 25 years. He started working as an apprentice from 1982 to 1985. His first teachers were the masters Lazar Tsarev and Angel Lyubenov - people of rich imagination and clever fingers who, together with his father, revealed him the mystery of the skill to revive iron and to create beauty and exquisiteness.
In 1986 he has defended a master's certificate to the Union of the masters of folk artistic crafts in Sofia.
Up to 1989 he worked with his teacher Lazar Tsarev, and from 1989 to 1996 he worked together with Dimo Dimov.
From 1996 to 1999 he worked in his line - wrought iron and metal plastic art in Limasol (Cyprus). He has four successive participations in the fairs in Nikosia (Cyprus) and one participation in Syria. Most of his articles are sold in England, America, Kuwait, Syria and Cyprus. In Cyprus, he worked together with Ivan Ganev and Blagoi Popov.
From 2002 to 2004, he taught French children by the EU programme for the renovation of crafts.
In 2006 Lazar Urumov was invited to take part in the masters' competition "Wrought Iron", carried out in the Architectural and ethnographic complex "Etar" during the 4th International fair of traditional crafts.
Hundred thousands articles and plastics must have passed through the hands of the famous master from Plovdiv, each of which is created with lots of feeling, love and inspiration. He has put a part of himself, of his spiritual essence in them. His incredible compositions, achieved by the play of the fire and the hammer, sound like a fairytale.
There is no imitations of the old masters. This is his world - isolated from the vanity, in a solitary dialogue with the iron, engrossed in ccreation and self-denial.
Lazar Urumov does not make projects in advance; his creative works are born by his inner feeling, spontaneously and immediately, in the course of his work. This requires knowledge of the details in the craft and a well-developed aesthetic sense, which he possesses.
